Volunteer to Direct our Next Student Showcase

As classes get going this year and the studio is humming with activity, we’re setting our sights on an opportunity for our students to celebrate getting back into the groove here: Our first Student Showcase of 2026!

Student showcases are a chance for those in our community to show off the new skills and strength they’ve been building through our classes and workshops. They aren’t as intricate as our typical cabarets—think simpler lighting and music queues, donation-based tickets, and vibes on the more relaxed side, but with all the fun and enthusiasm that comes with any circus performance.

How you can get involved

Start preparing an act! Now’s a great time to start thinking about choreography, character, and movement quality. And with our series and drop-in classes starting next week, there are plenty of opportunities to get a little refresher of anything you’re feeling rusty on.

Or, get involved on a deeper level as our Volunteer Director! We’re looking for someone to be the main point person for coordinating with performers, volunteers, and staff to bring the show to life. This is a great learning opportunity, so if you don’t have prior director experience, don’t worry, our team is here to show you the ropes. As the Director, you’ll:

  • Develop a theme for the showcase to help unify performer acts
  • Help recruit performers from a variety of disciplines, including clowning, aerials, dance, puppetry, music, or variety arts
  • Determine show flow, lineup, and transitions
  • Communicate all relevant information to performers about logistics, tech rehearsal, and other details as needed
  • Coordinate and lead the tech rehearsal
  • Lead show day operations, including stage flow and backstage coordination
  • Offer feedback post-show and participate in evaluation
  • Uphold a culture of respect and community support among artists and crew

In addition to building your directorial skills, as a thank you for your efforts we’re offering a complimentary registration for an 8-week series class of your choosing after the showcase.

If you’re interested in taking on the Volunteer Director role, please email studio@wisefoolnm.org by 5pm Friday, February 6 with your ideas for a show theme, a description of any relevant experience you may have, and a brief statement explaining your interest in the role.

We’re looking forward to this new way of celebrating all that our students learn here at Wise Fool. Stay tuned for more!
