From the experienced expresser looking to mine new material to the beginner mover finding their starting point, this workshop offers a look into the possibilities of armography in aerial. Part participatory lecture and part kinesthetic discovery, we’ll explore the intentions and emotions we want our arms to carry to our audience.
Come armed with your favorite aerial sequence that you’d love to dress up even further with some upper body expression. (Apparatuses may include, but be limited to, silk, hoop, hammock, trapeze, and rope, so be prepared to mark your sequence on the ground if your preference isn’t available!)
Looped Chains 101 – Visiting Coach
Sun April 12 | 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm | $100 | Alec Stoddard
Prerequisites: Must have a current aerial practice! That’s all! Pullovers on trapeze/hoop/hammock and inversions a plus, but not necessary.
For the aerialist interested in trying out chains! In this course, participants will get familiar with the weight of the chains, as well as the unique ways to grip and hold body weight on such an ouchie apparatus. Air time will include breaking down a fun combination and foundational skills like how to cleanly separate the loops with body weight on them.
What to wear: Clothing that you can move freely in, covers knee and armpits, and has no embellishments like zippers that can get caught between you and the chains (ow!). Trapeze boots are a huge plus, but tall socks or leg warmers can also provide shin and ankle protection!

In this three-hour workshop, we’ll explore clowning as an act of radical love and truth-telling—an art form grounded in self-expression, community and playfulness, especially in times of unrest. Through exploring sensation and honesty we will bring that beautiful clown of yours to the table–to engage, to learn, to listen, to lead and, of course, to laugh.
This space invites you to show up exactly as you are. Because to clown is to remember we’re alive. To clown together is to remember we’re not alone.
