Urgent Appeal: Wise Fool's Impact on Our Community and a Plea to Prevent Eviction

Dear Community Members,

We hope this letter finds you well. We are reaching out to you today with an urgent matter that affects the very foundation of our community.

It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that our current landlord has decided not to renew our lease in 2025. This news comes as a shock to us all. The landlord has decided to lease the entire building to our Morrison neighbors, who have offered to pay a higher price for the entirety of the space. While we understand their perspective, we believe that the invaluable contributions that Wise Fool makes to our community need to be considered.

The timeline provided by our landlord does not afford us adequate time to relocate. A year is not enough time for us to find a new space, negotiate terms, secure funding, do inspections and installations for rigging, and everything else necessary for this transition—especially within the current real estate landscape of Santa Fe.

As our beloved community, we are reaching out to you for support in advocating directly with our landlord for an extension of our lease. We believe that with our collective voice, we can convey to our landlord the importance of providing us with additional time to find a new home.

Wise Fool has been instrumental in promoting access, inclusivity, and social cohesion through its various programs, workshops, and performances. From empowering youth through circus arts to fostering dialogue on pressing social issues, Wise Fool has been a beacon of hope and inspiration for many.

We are asking for your help to rally support and demonstrate to our landlord the profound impact that Wise Fool has had on our community as well as the arts in Santa Fe, and that you join us in expressing the importance of granting us more time. Whether you have attended a performance, participated in a workshop, or simply witnessed the positive changes that Wise Fool has brought to our community, your voice matters. We kindly request that you take a moment to share your experiences, stories, and testimonials about Wise Fool and its significance to our community in a message directly to the landlord, Stan Biderman. You can email him at stanbiderman@me.com

It would also help to be specific about the ask for a three-year extension, which  would provide us with the opportunity to secure a new space without having to close down. A template that you can use to structure your message is below, and we encourage you to personalize it however you see fit.

Your input will not only help us in our efforts to persuade our landlord but also reaffirm the importance of preserving spaces like ours where creativity, diversity, and community thrive. Your support means everything to us, and we are confident that together, we can make a compelling case for the 3 year extension that we need.

With gratitude for your support and solidarity,
Amaya and Alishiya
