Raising Truth - published in Journal North

May Day's roots as a workers movement for an eight-hour work day will combine with the artistic and dramatic inclinations of Santa Fe to produce street theater celebrating an array of social justice issues Saturday. Wise Fool New Mexico's Ignite! Raising Truth in the Streets will use puppets in a theatrical pageant with music, stiltwalking and storytelling that allows participants and viewers to share grief about society's ills and ways to make positive changes. "First we grieve and then we ask what we do now," said Wise Fool New Mexico's co-artistic director Amy Christian. "We want to honor a few of the people who have made a difference and let everyone know that all of us can make a difference."

A Celebration of Work to Make a Better World - published on SantaFe.com

WFNM’s “Ignite!” event will take place on May 1, 2010, in solidarity with the millions throughout the world who celebrate this date as International Workers Day. In this time of economic uncertainty and struggle, there is an opportunity to redefine “work” and how to evaluate these definitions. A March, 2010, press release from WFNM articulates the scope and purpose of this community event: “On May 1, 2010, we join together in Santa Fe to inspire our local community and honor the many kinds of work that are done here in Northern New Mexico—to celebrate community efforts, social and environmental justice struggles, cultural creation, harvesting from and healing the land, the work of everyday survival and of immigrant rights, and the struggle for workers’ rights.”

Wise Fool Holds Its First Ever Stilt-a-Thon Fundraiser - published in Journal North

It was like an old-time picnic where everyone just happened to know how to walk on stilts. Under the shade of a dozen or so elm trees at Alto/Bicentennial Park, behind Bicentennial Pool, Wise Fool held its first ever Stilt-A-Thon Saturday afternoon. There were 21 pairs of stilts, for youngsters to oldsters, not to mention a croquet set, hula hoops, face painting and fresh peaches for the taking. "It's not that hard but ... it gets kind of sore where they strap them on your legs," said Lucy Kamp, 9, of the stilts. Kamp is a veteran of Wise Fool programs, having taken "four after schools and one summer camp," she said. "We call it 'stilting,' " said attorney Julia Jarvis, who became involved in supporting Wise Fool several years ago when she attended the annual women's camp.
