CircAspire Auditions Jan 27th

CircAspire Auditions Jan 27th

Saturday January 27 from 1 to 4pm
Calling all pre-professional youth and adult performers! Auditions to be held on Saturday January 27th for CircAspire 2018! This show is the fourth annual Wise Fool CircAspire production and seeks to provide our youth and adult students and community members the opportunity to be a part of a pre-professional show! Clowns, acrobats, stilt-walkers, jugglers, aerialists, singers, instrumentalists, visual artists, actors, spoken word artists, writers, unicyclers, b-boys/b-girls, musicians, singers, and more are invited to be a part of the cast and crew that will bring the magic to life onstage and off! There is room for every different skill you can imagine because we all fit under the circus tent! The show will be held on April 27, 28, and 29th at the Wise Fool Studio, and will be written and directed, by Oriana Lee with production support from past directors Amy Christian and Sarah Jane Moody – AND along with an amazing creative production team of professional music, theater, and visual artists. CLICK HERE TO FILL OUT THE AUDITION FORM.

Who Should Audition: Any current or recent Wise Fool student, age 8-80. Participants in our camps, circus in the schools programs, classes, workshops and intensives are all welcome! You don’t need to be a world-class performer; you do need to be excited to share your voice & vision through performance, and be willing to commit to learning, growing, and working with others in the process of creation. For Parents of Interested Young Ones: This is a pre-professional production so please consider that it does require youth to be capable of focusing for up to 4 hour rehearsals – performing numerous nights in a row – and maturity to be part of a team effort which will require compromise and changes.

We will also need behind the scenes folk who want to share their passion for tech and visual support! So if you or someone you know has skills in that arena, you don’t need to audition, but please be in touch by emailing us at orianalee@whohf.com. Interns to help with props and sets, stage hands, and tech wanted!

What’s the Schedule and Time Commitment?
All participants are expected to attend:

– One all cast gathering on Sunday Feb 11 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm

– Sunday rehearsals, Feb 25 thru April 23 (no rehearsal March 18th or April 1st)

(12:30 to 4:30pm is the tentative time for Sunday rehearsals)

– Tech Week evening rehearsals on April 24 thru 26 (exact times TBD).

– Four Performances: Friday April 27 at 7pm, Sat April 28 at 2 and 7pm, Sunday April 29 at 4pm

Performers will be required to attend CircAspire Choreography, Creation, and Rehearsal Classes at least once a week for 8-weeks starting the week of February 21st This rehearsal class will be guided by instructors to help folks further develop performance skills as well as create and hone their acts for the show. These classes will run on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30 to 7pm. Which class time slot you attend will depend on what act or acts you will be performing in.

Performers may be required to attend additional rehearsals as needed.

What’s the Cost?

All participants in CircAspire will be asked to pay a participation fee of $200 to help towards the costs of 8 weeks of instruction at rehearsals and classes, plus production, and performance expenses. Tuition assistance and work trade are available and we will work with you to assure accessibility to anyone who auditions and gets into the show! Upon acceptance into the production you will be asked to sign up for CircAspire 2018 in our registration system.

What’s the Show all About: That depends a lot on you! The theme of the show is about how we each walk in between spaces of vulnerability and bravery every day, and how we find ways to successfully be our best authentic selves along the journey. There will be lots of room for performers’ creative voice and we will encourage the sharing of ideas and dialogue on all aspects of empowerment and relationship building. Once we know who and what skills are in the show we will write a rough storyline, and cast members will have the opportunity to contribute ideas that help shape the story. This will take place at the Feb 11th all cast gathering.

How to Prepare for Auditions: The audition will be conducted in workshop format. Participants will do various exercises led by the Directors. Participants will also be given an opportunity to “show what they do” in a discipline of their choice. This need not be a formal act, just show us a minute or two (at the most) that demonstrates your level of comfort with your preferred apparatus/discipline. Participants are also welcome to bring specific ideas for acts.

CLICK HERE TO FILL OUT THE AUDITION FORM.

What if I can’t make it to the audition? If you’re unable to attend the audition, please fill out an audition form and email Oriana – we’ll be in touch.

PLEASE inform us if you or your youth is planning to be in any other productions this spring and provide us with the schedule of that production at auditions

Navarasa performs “A Story and A Song” at Wise Fool, 3/18

Saturday, March 18th, 7pm

Wise Fool Studio, 1131 Siler Rd

Navarasa Dance Theater is a pioneering South-Asian Contemporary Dance Theater company with a wide repertoire of classical and contemporary works inspired by Bharatanatyam and folk dance forms, martial arts (Kalarippayattu), diverse theater and music traditions, aerial dance, yoga and storytelling.

Navarasa will be performing A Story and A Song, a tale of women, environment and love told with wit and dynamic interplay of classical dance (Bharatanatyam), martial arts (Kalari ppayattu), yoga, aerial dance, theater and music.

Reserve your seat today! Tickets available online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2892533

Navarasa’s choreography is grounded in traditional Indian dance, but reaches outward. They incorporate modern dance, Indian martial arts, aerial dance, Bollywood’s pop influences — all with an eye for originality and a skillful use of space, sending dancers into eye-catching floor patterns. Embedded are compelling dances: an acrobatic solo up and down a roughly 10-foot-tall wooden column, a sensuous, serpentine duet, a fighting dance with the clash of wooden canes."  -- Boston Globe
